Things aren't looking great for Toyota with the sticking accelerator recall in effect again. Anyone have any issues with their Tundra? They are now expanding it beyond the floor mat as the root cause.

I can't recall a sticking issue but they sent me a letter awhile back about the floor mats when my truck didn't even come with any. At least we now have an excuse if pulled over for speeding LOL.....all joking aside, I'd like to know if this is really a serious issue or something just being blown out of proportion.

Its a pretty serious issue..I've heard numerous times about being getting in wrecks or their car accelerating to very high speeds

Throw it in neutral....and kill the engine....and apply brakes. I don't understand how these people are actually wrecking!!

Panic/Fear - I watched the Early Show and they went over what you said. I'm most appalled at the CHP officer's tragedy that has brought this to light in the first place. He of all people should have been trained. Either way, I'm waiting to hear a solution. I'm not scared but I also want to feel like my truck is safe.

I would die laughing if we got instructions on disabling the engine but honestly they should do it as a safety precaution so people can't say they didn't know.

Lol, at dealership now, asked em that and they said it's being blown outta portion. Only a few cases out of how many toyotas? Lol but there getting in the equipment now and going to start doing the replacements in march/April. On another note the manager said that I have to by a moduel to have an alarm! Said he took classes to know this since ppl have already been asking about it. And he will not listen to me. Is there any hard proof that it's there, ie in manual? Pissing me off!!!!!!! Lol

There should be a pdf in here that you can download, I thought I had the file but can't find it http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tundra/122180-alarm-activation-confirmed/

ya, i got it from tundratalk.net
the service manager didnt even look at it, says he knew u could do that, but that there would b no alarm b/c the tundras dont come with the "module". but anyways, told him about hundreds of ppl having it done, and it working. so made an appt for wed when they open, he said that it would take awhile to do it. (which i know is bull 30min prob) anyways, ill get back to yall if it worked or not.
then if it works, getting a viper remote start!!!

honestly, you could get the factory one activated. but my bro has the factory alarm and it sucks. Your better off & your trucks safer if you just get the viper remote start & alarm system. Alarm systems is one of those things that aftermarket is the best bet.

I think the recall is like most, its a few cases (some a lot more) but if it gets the right publicity then they do the recall. Its very sad about the people that died due to this problem and I hope toyota compensates the families, but it doesn't seem like a wide-spread problem.

Agreee 100% with all you've said. Unfortunately those few small cases are life-threatening.

I DID have the pedal sticking problem(somewhat). Mine started to feel sticky or grabby when accelerating. Hard to accel smoothly. Never worried about it really but anoying. Anyway found a post on another site that explains how to disassemble padal and grease. Worked great! No more issues. The only thing that I dont get is the recall says pedal sticks. Soooooo how did that cops lexus get to 120? It never says it accelerates uncontrolably just sticks!?!?

Hmmmm good point on WHY it continued to increase the speed and not just continue down the road! I never thought of that, J. (love new sig for realz!)

The only thing that seems to make sense is that it stuck when fully (or close to) depressed. Maybe he was gunning up to speed and when he got there he let go of the pedal but clearly it got stuck pushed in. That'd be my guess.

Oh yeah in his case the mat actually did hold the pedal in place and probably continued to get wedged.
