Subject: 18 or 20.....35 or 37? 10/24/2009, 4:44 pm |

Looking for some input on wheel/tire sizes and appearance, functionality, etc. with a 6" or more lift. Truck will be going off road so it must be practical. 1) Can 18" wheels get 37 tires or must use 20" wheels? And do 20" wheels get to 35 tires? Weighing pros/cons of larger wheels. I know what larger tires do already. 2) Do you think there is a noticeable difference in 35 or 37 on a 6" or more lift that the truck would look awkward if I stayed at 35?

the major pros of the 18's if you decide to go with 35's or 37's will be the price of the tires. if you move to 20's number 1 tires become rare and more expensive, but you also have a lot less of a selection. personally for the money and functionality i would go with 18's and 37's with a 6" lift that's my vote also you should have more of a selection this way

Thanks for the feedback. Ros. Kinda what I was thinking....stick with 18" wheels and do 35 or 37 if I decide to invest more money in tires at a later time. But will 35 look funky small was my concern. Will have to look for more pics online.... Anybody else want to chime in? I have more time.....

Hmmm I thought he was sitting on 37's but I can go check his profile on TundraNetwork where he lists out his mods....Yep.....20" rims on 37" tires.

35's will fit with a 3/1 level... basically with 20's your rig will look like Justins, wth 18's it'll look more like Brad. If you go with 37's you'll need a 6in lift because they wont fit with a 3/1 also... just like Ros said.... rubber for 20 are hella expensive and harder to find than for 18's.... I have 18's on 33's and they are a GREAT ride also...

Definitely! My mom had a little trouble stepping up into Shawn's but it's doable. I'll probably be right in between your height and Shawn's depending on the setting used with the Bilsteins. Really helped to see the 35s - they don't look small at all which is all I was worried about.

I would check on the 17's first they are limited on tires and sizes and also the price of tires is more than the 18's just a suggestion though

Went into Discount today and I'm going 18s on 35s. I knew the wheels were in price range and they can get them. But found tires I think I'll be happy with too. Brad, I'm letting you get the 37s bro!

17's are too small IMO... 18's are good, 20's on 37's look great!

Love the new sig, Beez! And yeah I think I've got optimal choice with 18/35. Just can't wait to get it all done and wish I could have it ready and in state November.

Yeah Tamara, your tire/rim size is perfect...you are gonna love it! I like 18's because I do go offroad & I want as much rubber on the walls protecting my rims as I can. Don't get me wrong 20's look great as well. There are some out there that NEVER get their trucks dirty...I refer to those people as "MALL CRAWLERS"!...which I am NOT. Can't wait to see your truck when it's done.

LOL Thanks, Truckz......I would only go 20+s for show but I'm actually making the truck functional. No mall crawling here. I'll definitely be contacting you when I'm in state to see if we can get a group of us up to Huntsville or somewhere without pavement.

I'll still go wherever with my 20's!!! I built it to look good but a truck is a truck and that's what I'm going to use it for!! There is one benefit of having a 20" over 18" offroad. Because it is a larger diameter it does mean less sidewall which means less flex in the sidewall which will help keep the majority of the tread footprint on the trail. But I like 18's just as much... Just figured I'd throw it out there.

Cool info but I'm also not looking to be limited on tire selection and have to pay more too. Where do you take your truck out offroading? I'm ready to go as soon as I get it all done!!!

Doesn't have to be the Tundra. I just don't want to go offroading by myself and since I'm new to it I'm open to where to go.
