Maybe Tom can answer this one but how much does remote start cost or what can you do for a group member through Star? I like if it works with my existing keyless entry/fob that is already functional.

you might wanna try posting this in the Star topic Tamara as a question on pricing for Thomas.

on a side note... I know there is a hack to activate the stock alarm in a 2gen for a glass break sensor (etc.) you can take it to the dearlership and they should be able to hook you up. I've never heard of a remote start from the factory on our trucks though... I'm looking into a viper system with remote start and window controls.

I've read the factory remote start is no where as good as the aftermarket stuff out there, I think you have to buy the whole alarm to get it though

How would you know if you have the "whole" alarm? I shouldn't ask these questions b/c it'll be another mod I don't need. And Ben please feel free to relocate to the Star section if it makes more sense.

No remote start from factory on Tundras or Tacomas. You would have to go with an aftermarket.

Look into Autopage as well. They make a great product with a wide variety for any and every situation. I've had one of their systems in my last two trucks. Works great with simple functionality.

This would be great to start the engine in cold weather, defrost, etc and still have the doors locked with no worries about someone trying to take off.

I have a buddy who just did it to his truck. remote start using a Viper????? system. The key fob tells him when the truck is jacked with. He is a ET and he would never do it again so I would suggest having it installed and not doing it yourself.

Chuck - I don't use heat but Mom has to be comfortable when she rides in the rig. I'm on paid leave for 2-3 weeks in Dec. and usually take her to work when I'm in state. She's not a happy mommy if the truck hasn't warmed to her liking.

Best part about modding is she doesn't complain or ask how much cuz 1) I'd do anything for my mom and she knows it and 2) she enjoys riding in it for some reason. So I'll just blame her if I end up adding it.

I have a Viper 5901 remote start alarm... simply fabulous. Did a lot of research and they have a LOT of good reviews.
